Day 2 (Week 1) Activity 1 - It's All In A Day's Work

A wharepuni has many similar things and many different things compared to our houses(Present). My house: Door, Roof, Kitchen, Living room, Bathroom, its made out of bricks, steps, window and rooms. Wharepuni: It's made of thatches, wood, it's smaller compared to the houses in the present, it has carvings on the wood. Similar things: It has window's, it has a door, it has a roof over their heads.  Image result for wharepuni------> Image result for houses

Hi Sam,

Ruby here from the Summer Learning Journey team!

Good work with this activity. I can see that you have thought about what similarities and differences your house and a wharepuni may have. I like where you have mentioned that the wharepuni is made from thatch and also that it has carvings on it. Why do you think the Maori peoples have carvings on their traditional wharepuni?

One of the similarities I thought of was that they both had widows! But there is a difference between the windows at my house and the windows of a wharepuni. Can you think of what that might be?

I look forward to reading more of your blog over the summer.
Cheers,
Ruby.
